"Above the clouds freedom must be infinite..." if you want to take the pop hit by Reinhard May literally then you should make your way to the hang-glider of Thierfeld near Hartenstein.

The 1. Drachenfliegerclub Sachsen e.V. was already founded in January 1990. Club members created a runway for microlight airplanes at the Thierfeld airfield. A hang-gliding and paragliding in winch haul service was also started.

During the flying season from March to October one can watch mostly on weekends and ingood weather the 60 members at their flying arts in their microlight airplanes, on trikes or while hang-gliding.

Hang-glides and paraglinde are being hauled to a height of 300 – 500 m by a cable winch. Another start option for hang-glider is the haul witha microlight airplane. Then every pilot tries to use the thermal forhis flying ability so that he can reach a higher altitude or do a longer distance flight. In Hartenstein altitudes of 2500m have been reached and distances of 100km have been achieved. While doing this, the pilots are in the air for several hours.

The diverse activities of the club include an activesocial club life as well as the traditional airfield festival, participation in competitions and organised flight trips.

If you want to get to know Hartenstein andthe Erzgebirge from an birds eye view then you can fulfill your wish with one of the club's microlight airplanes.
