Near the large district town of Crimmitschau is Germany's unique museum's complex, the Agrarian and Open-air Museum Palace Blankenhain situated. It unites an open-air, agricultural, brewery, technique, history, folklore and palace museum.

The generous museum's complex is a real experience for young and old. During a walk-about one dives into the past world of a farm, bakery, village school or a windmill.

The post mill – a technical master work of mill construction – and the associated residence were relocated from the Thuringian Großenstein and document miller's bygone times.

At the brewery building and the beer storage cellar one can trace the art of beer brewing. Original machines and equipment as for example brewing pan, straining vat and bottle wash facilities can be seen here.

The brew-house already mentioned in 1661 must have produced beer of a very high quality: Many sources from that time report that the Blankenhainer beer was delivered far beyond the village borders.

The first floor show the visitor the middle-class living circumstances on a knight's castle in the years 1900 to 1930. The 2nd floor is reserved for concerts and changing exhibitions. A permanent exhibition about the themes agrarian and countryside ecology is situated at the 3rd floor. The upper floor is devoted to cultural history of beekeeping by the Werdauer merchant and folklorist Herbert Altmann.
